Project Summary

In addition to economic hardship and the risk of famine, families living in Hodeida are particularly vulnerable to the effects of conflict.

This project enables frontline village households to relocate – safely and voluntarily – by working with government partners, financial institutions, and formal and informal security providers to accommodate transportation costs and facilitate movement to more secure areas.

Not only does this preserve the right of every human being to freedom of movement and residence, as articulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; it is also seen as a way to reduce danger in frontline areas.

It is anticipated that through the project,approximately 63,300 households will receive assistance and will be able to relocate.

Objectives

Specifically, the project provides families (identified by government) with a one-time cash assistance equivalent to USD $40 to enable their safe relocation.   

Accomplishments

To date and in spite of security challenges, the project has made significant progress:

• Nearly 36,500 households have received financial assistance and have been safely relocated.  This is equivalent to 250,000 individuals from across 9 districts, of whom 59 percent are male and 41 percent are female.
• To date, the project has relocated over half (57.6 percent) of the households.
