Mr. Jamie McGoldrick assumes his duties as the UN Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator in YemenDec 17, 2015
Mr. Jamie McGoldrick has assumed his duties as the Resident Coordinator (RC) of the United Nations in Yemen. He is responsible for coordinating all UN entities in the country to ensure that UN’s efforts are coherent and aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people living in the Yemen. Mr. Jamie McGoldrick is also the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, guiding the work of UNDP in the county.
In addition to this, Mr. McGoldrick is the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC), coordinating UN entities and partners in a joint, urgent, and lifesaving response to the mounting humanitarian crisis which is severely affecting the lives of women, men, boys and girls across the country. The main concern at this stage is to reach affected populations, especially those in previously hard to reach places, with much needed relief.
Mr. McGoldrick will work in partnership with the Special Envoy to the Secretary General on Yemen, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who facilitates the political talks between warrying parties.
Moreover, Mr. McGoldrick will collaborate closely with the Yemeni people, as well as international and Yemeni partners, to ensure that the support of the United Nations responds to the most urgent needs, promotes peace and stability, and best serves to realize the future Yemenis want.
Prior to his arrival in Yemen, Mr. Jamie McGoldrick was the Resident Coordinator in Nepal, and before that in Georgia. Mr. McGoldrick began his career as a news producer and researcher with a number of TV production companies. Over his career, Mr. McGoldrick has also worked with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC); International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and Save the Children Fund (UK). From 1995 to 2009, Mr. Jamie McGoldrick has taken positions for OCHA of increasing responsibility in headquarters as well as serving in, amongst other countries, Tajikistan, Sierra Leone, West Bank and Pakistan.Contact information
