    UNDP receives $15 million for enhancing voter registration in Yemen

    Sana'a - The United Kingdom, Sweden and Japan announced today a contribution of US $15,200,000 in support of the coming voter registration, Referendum and electoral process in Yemen. This support will be channeled through the Multi-donors Basket Fund, administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and will serve to bolster the implementation of the Support to the Elections during the Transitional Period (SETP) project in Yemen.

    UNDP and the Government's Cleaning and Improvement Fund partner in Taiz Governorate to empower youth economically

    Nadia Al Sakkaf – a Yemeni Businesswoman receives Business for Peace Award, honored on May 14th at Akershus Nobel Prize Fortress in Oslo

    This year, UNDP has developed a new strategic partnership with the Business for Peace Foundation and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to promote the Business for Peace Award. UNDP country offices were invited to support this year’s nomination process. Nominations were received from over 50 countries, and a Yemeni business woman, Nadia Al Sakkaf, nominated by UNDP Yemen, has been chosen as Honoree.

    USAID increases support to national capacity building

    The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced today its support to the Emergency Capacity Development Facility managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).     UN Secretary General declares Yemen eligible to Peacebuilding support

    Yemen has been declared “eligible” to the United Nations Peace-building Fund. The news has been confirmed by the UNDP’s Senior Country Director, Gustavo Gonzalez, who added that this decision “opens a promising venue for a strategic partnership amongst Yemen, a wide large of donors supporting the Peacebuilding Fund and the United Nations”.

    In response to the country’s transitional needs: UNDP is supporting the Government of Yemen with youth economic empowerment

    UNDP, GoY and Government of Japan launch the 3x6 approach in Yemen for Inclusiveness, Ownership and Sustainability. The Yemeni economy is caught in a jobless slow growth cycle leading to stagnation in per capita incomes and rising levels of unemployment, particularly among the youth. An estimated 50% of youth between the ages of 18 and 24 are unemployed and the country’s economic capacity is incapable to cope with the increasing youth bulge rate.
